At UniCote® we inspire creativity in the building industry by offering a selection in coloured steel, textured and patterned finishes, and a range of metal solutions to perform in environments – from moderate inland, harsh coastal and extreme conditions.

Tested in Australian Conditions

Protecting your investment with our proven performance. UniCote® offer premium quality pre-painted metal solutions, designed, and tested for Australian conditions.

We ensure your steel application will perform in the harshest conditions with real world testing sites in Birdsville and Rockhampton for UV performance, Shellharbour and Muriwai (NZ) to stand up against punishing coastal environments.

UniCote® products are comprehensively tested to meet the strict requirements of AS/NZS27828:2013 for salt spray, humidity, and UV resistance to provide you with warranties up to 30 years.

SCRATCH RESISTANCE

Good scratch resistance. Testing includes needle scratch test – no marking of paint surface when a needle with up to a 2kg weight attached is drawn across. AS 2331.4.7.

HUMIDITY RESISTANCE

Meets the requirements of AS/NZS2728:2013 Sections 2.8 and 2.9.

IMPACT RESISTANCE

No loss of paint adhesion after a test piece is struck on the reverse side with a specified force, in line with the test methodology AS/NZS2728:2013 Table 2.2 and Appendix E.

SALT SPRAY

Meets the requirements of AS/NZS2728:2013 Sections 2.8 and 2.10.

HEAT RESISTANCE

Suitable for continuous service up to 100ºC. Continuous service at higher temperatures may cause some colour change and damage to the paint film.

BEND TEST

No loss of adhesion or paint cracking when bent around a diameter equal to five times the thickness of the sheet AS/NZS2728:2013 section 2.6.1 and Appendix F.

FIRE RESISTANCE

Meets the requirements of AS/NZS 1530.3 Methods for Fire Tests on Building Materials.

QUV RESISTANCE (DURABILITY OF COATING SYSTEM)

Meets the requirements of AS/NZS2728:2013 Section 2.8 and Table 2.4. Note: Tests are conducted on a flat panel.

UniCOte is a non combustible material

Non-combustible material

UniCote® Steel is fire-rated, providing an added layer of safety and protection for buildings in the face of potential fire hazards.

Our UniCote® products are non-combustible (NCC compliant), meeting the requirements for Australian Standard AS/NZS 1530.3:1999. They are tested and assessed for ignition tendency, flame spread, heat development and tendency to produce smoke.

Roofing, walls and cladding, fascia and guttering made from UniCote® products also meet the constructions requirements for the most extreme BAL-FZ category (Bush Fire Attack Level – Fire Zone) as defined in AS 3959:2018.

Environmentally sustainable

Steel’s eco-friendly nature lies in its recyclability as a building material. UniCote® steel is a 100% recyclable sustainable material, with a cyclic lifecycle helping to minimise its effect on the environment.

Our partner steel mill has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions up to 24.4% by 2030; a commitment we are proud of. A vital step in minimizing our mill’s carbon footprint is using state-of-the-art electric arc furnace, which is a reduction of approximately 75% in the carbon dioxide produced when compared to the traditional way of making steel in a blast furnace.

Thermal Efficiency

Reducing the heat let into a building can be minimised by choosing the right colour roof. Lighter steel roof colours will have a lower Solar Absorptance (SA) level, which reflects more heat away from the building, saving on energy bills and create a more comfortable cool internal temperature.

Solar absorptance is a key indicator of thermal efficiency which is why we’ve ensured that the UniCote® colour range provides choice across all categories defined and measured by BASIX and The Green star Energy Council; Light Medium and Dark. Each colour’s category is display on the individual colour page.

Low Maintenance

UniCote® steel cladding and roofing offer a low-maintenance and long-lasting solution for your building’s exterior, particularly when compared to traditional materials such as tiled roofs or wooden cladding. Here are some of the benefits of choosing UniCote® steel for your project:

  • Weather resistant and durable:
UniCote® steel is a highly durable material that can withstand exposure to the elements, including extreme temperatures, high winds, and heavy rain or snow. UniCote® is tested to perform in Australian conditions including salt spray, humidity, and coastal influences.
  • Long lasting material:
UniCote® steel cladding and roofing typically require less maintenance than other materials such as wooden cladding or tiled roofing. UniCote® steel is resistant to rot, insect damage, and corrosion, meaning it does not need to be regularly repaired or replaced.
  • No painting or staining needed:
Unlike wood, which requires regular staining or painting to maintain its appearance, UniCote® steel doesn’t require any such upkeep to maintain aesthetics and performance. This can save both time and money on maintenance costs, making steel a cost-effective option in the long term.

The timber patterns and textures available in our UniCote® LUX range is the high-end material substitute for the latest in architectural designs.
  • Easy to clean and maintain:
Requiring minimal effort UniCote® steel cladding and roofing are easy to clean and care for, requiring only a regular wash with water to remove any accumulated dirt or debris. This ease of maintenance means that steel is a popular choice for buildings in areas with high levels of pollution or dust, as it does not require any additional upkeep.
