The Bondi Icebergs Club is one of Australia’s most exposed coastal buildings. Positioned directly above the Pacific Ocean, the roof is constantly impacted by salt spray, high winds, intense UV, and moisture from the marine environment. Any roofing material used in this location must withstand extreme coastal corrosion and provide long-term protection.

Why UniCote® Coastal Was Selected

For the renovation, the project team chose UniCote® Coastal, a steel roofing material designed specifically for marine and severe coastal environments. UniCote Coastal uses an aluminium-zinc-magnesium alloy (AM210), which delivers significantly higher corrosion resistance than standard roofing steels such as AM100.

This alloy provides two major advantages for buildings near the ocean:

1. Superior corrosion protection in areas exposed to salt-laden winds.

2. Enhanced cut-edge performance, reducing the risk of rust developing at edges, folds, and panel joints, common failure points in coastal structures.
