Lambeth Residence
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Built in the eclectic and vibrant streets of St Kilda, Victoria, the Lambeth Residence, also known as Lambeth House or Lambeth Cousin, stands as a beacon of modern architectural design and innovative material usage. Developed by Richard Kerr Architects and constructed by Element Home Victoria, this project seamlessly blends into the urban fabric of Melbourne while making a bold statement with its unique design elements.
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: The Lambeth Residence is noted for its concrete roof and an angular facade clad in UniCote® LUX Zinc Graphite. The choice of UniCote® LUX Zinc Graphite was driven by the need for a high-end substitute to natural Zinc materials, providing not only a visually striking finish but also a durable, environmentally sustainable and price conscious solution. The 25mm Standing Seam profile used in the project complements the angular and canted design of the façade, which cleverly integrates into the building’s overall aesthetic and structural requirements.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: One of the primary challenges of the Lambeth project was integrating the residence within a heritage streetscape while introducing a modern architectural expression. The architects and builders needed materials that could meet stringent aesthetic and functional criteria. UniCote® LUX Zinc Graphite offered the perfect solution with its naturally aged patina look and superior performance characteristics, including high resistance to corrosion, humidity, and UV degradation.
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Metal Cladding Systems and Advanced Metal Cladding supplied and installed the UniCote® LUX cladding. Their expert handling of the Standing Seam installations on the walls, roof, and even the custom folded panels on the garage door ensured a seamless and high-quality finish that was consistent throughout the structure.
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: The completion of Lambeth Residence has not only enhanced the visual appeal of its neighbourhood but has also set a new standard for sustainable and innovative building practices in urban & heritage settings. The project has been celebrated with multiple awards, including the 2022 City of Port Phillip Design + Development Awards - New Houses, highlighting its excellence in design and development.
𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Richard Kerr, the lead architect of Lambeth Residence, reflected on the distinctive experience of crafting a new home adjacent to one he had designed nearly two decades ago. He affectionately dubbed this new venture "Lambeth Cousin," acknowledging the pivotal role that UniCote® LUX played in realising his vision for a building that blends timeless design with cutting-edge functionality.
𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The project has garnered critical acclaim, winning the City of Port Phillip 2022 Design + Development Awards for New Houses and receiving a Gold Medal at the SPASA (Vic) Awards 2021 for its innovative outdoor pool and spa design.
𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Lambeth Residence is a testament to the architectural creativity and advanced material technology that UniCote® LUX brings to the Australian construction industry. With its distinctive design and high-end finish, the project not only fulfils the functional needs of its residents but also contributes to the architectural richness of St Kilda.

Zinc Graphite resembles a naturally aged patina that offers a darker zinc finish. The hairline grains capture and reflect light in a way that enhances the overall aesthetics of the structure.
